Question by they say: are there any types of asbestos shingles that can be torn off legally without an abatement company?

a big church has asbestos shingles here in arkansas and i know there is a way to legally tear this type off but have been unable to find legal doc. to back this up. any Ideas?

No, you have to go through a company of professionals who are trained in how to remove the asbestos — if you don’t and somehow don’t remove it properly and someone gets sick, you could be sued for a lot. I wouldn’t risk it if I were you.

    each state, usually your dept. of environmental quality, will have rules regarding safe removal of asbestos-containing materials. The rules are state-specific..and sometimes, specific counties will even have their own rules.

    Usually the people removing them will need at least asbestos awareness training, but usually will need asbestos worker training (40 hours). For the most accurate answer, contact your local department of environmental quality.
