Question by Daniel B: Are asbestos mats safe?

My mum has an asbestos mat for cooking, ie. for simmering things in saucepans. Is this kind of thing safe? It seems to have loose fibres poking out through the mesh.

No, it’s NOT safe. Dispose of it properly.
